Since its first release, Originals has always been about students — student voices, student artwork, and student presence at East Central University. And like any anthology, Originals has a way of transcribing time with each edition. For many students, being published in Originals is a way to etch their name into ECU's history.

For 28 years, Dr. Mark Walling served as the faculty advisor for Originals. During his time as faculty advisor, Dr. Walling helped numerous students hone their literary craft, and faithfully guided student editors as they compiled each year's newest edition. Dr. Walling now serves as the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
